A tale of passion. Of heroes, hope, and the consequences of creating extraordinary music amidst the dark nights of World War II.

Swept back in time to Nazi-held France, concert pianist and composer Erin Meyer protects members of the Resistance by ghost-writing music for an influential German officer. She's now performing for her life - and for those in the Resistance. But what she thought was already a maze of confusion becomes even more mystifying when she helps a wounded British pilot evade capture. Arick Ambrose. She recognizes him from her own life and time. Erin's attraction to Arick could prove deadly as the German officer who holds the key to Erin's return demands more than she is willing to give. And if she returns home, will she ever find Arick again? For Erin, time is running out.

Janet Fogg has written a brilliant, and not too sentimental, story about a woman, Erin, who travels back in time to WWII where she encounters, for the second time, her true love and affects the world she touches. The fact that she's a concert pianist and makes full use of her talent while back in time was a treat for this reader.

In a world in which an egg and a bisquit is a meal for royalty, Erin is at the mercy of a Nazi tyrant enamored of her musical compositions. She must scrape together obedience to protect others. But she does so heroically. With each of Erin's shivering piano performances, she wrings "smoke and dust and wicked heat from the piano." Not to mention every forlorn and mysterious emotion.

One of the people she must protect is one she knows from another time, Aric, a downed pilot she helps nurse back to health. Loving him through decades, she's driven to "nuzzle the inside of his wrists and count the beat of his heart with her lips." But there's no guarentee that Aric will remember her when she plays Soliloquy.

Erin must decide whether or not to pursue what she truly wants, instead of cast it aside. Aric worries Erin may be a spy.

Erin's desires for love and happiness "are shadows filling her throat" keeping Aric at a distance. When he doesn't remember her, something also catches in the readers' throats. We yearn on Erin's behalf. Fogg teases us, putting Erin's love interest within reach, then yanking him away. Fogg makes us wait to see if Aric will have the opportunity to chase the "flutter from her limbs into her heart." And ours.

Sure, we know their name sakes exist today and yesterday, but until you read the book you'll have to wonder if a Nazi guard pulls a trigger, ending Erin's dreams. And whether or not Erin and Aric have simply fallen pray to loneliness, or if they are destined to be together. Read Fogg's book to find out.
Sililoquy is time travel romance at its best. Far from light-weight, Soliloquy is intellectually satisfying. The writing is smooth and swift, so much so that the read is over too soon. Now I anxiously await Fogg's next book.

Soliloquy Janet Fogg 9781601545886 Books Reviews

I find the story-line intriguing and I spent much guessing time trying to figure out how the heroine got into her situation (I failed). It is a good read. mag
Beautifully written. Engages the reader. Description is rich and full, allowing the reader to become wrapped up in and experience all that is happening - smell the smoke, join the dance and hear the music, and feel the longing and sacrifice. I was left with a longing to know what comes next and what came before Erin received the box. I look forward to more from this author.
Loved this book! I enjoyed the twists and turns and the character development. I have both a hard copy and a copy. Nice romance with a sci-fi twist. Excellent reading!
More of a short novel then romance. I couldn't put it down. I purchase it as gifts for friends. Everyone loves it. Can't wait for more.
Reading this World War II time-travel romance was like sliding a warm knife through butter I just couldn't stop. Fogg's prose is smooth and cool, her characters vivid and elegant. Aside from A Wrinkle In Time this was my first time travel book, and I'm not quite sure how the author suspended my disbelief, but she did so completely. One memorable scene captured the mood of the whole book two main characters sit alone together in a room with the blinds pulled down, threatened, intimate, cut off from normal time and life, yet hopeful and seeking refuge in one another. We need more books like this original and intelligent, historically aware, with smooth writing and romance made more effective by its reserve.
